Decentralization in Libya: Civic Engagement with Local Radios
MiCT and GIZ have embarked on a collaborative initiative to enhance public understanding and engagement in the process of decentralization in Libya.
MiCT and GIZ have embarked on a collaborative initiative to enhance public understanding and engagement in the process of decentralization in Libya. Local governance is central to diverse public communication about decentralization and the Ministry of Local Governance (MoLG) and municipalities across the country play a significant role in our work.
Our comprehensive approach begins with the development of a clear strategy that lays the groundwork for effective decentralization. This will be built upon by equipping key stakeholders with skills and knowledge through extensive training and coaching sessions and by focusing on the production of media content that raises public awareness about decentralization and local governance. The influence of local media will be harnessed through collaborations with local radio stations essential for broadening our reach and disseminating information across various municipalities.
The scope of our activities includes major Libyan cities like Tripoli, Al Bayda, Sabha, and Musrata, as well as Tunisia. We targeted 30 municipalities and worked closely with 10 local radio stations throughout 2022 which led to the production and broadcast of radio show content focussing on the intricacies of decentralization on 7 stations. We also conducted a coaching program for municipal media offices designed to enhance their abilities to effectively inform citizens on matters related to decentralization.
