Leadership Training for Female Journalists
Iraqi female experts, social activists, community leaders and journalists have shown their determination in refashioning public life. Despite intimidation, disregard within professional cultures, and community pushback, women nonetheless continue to struggle for space in politics, media, and civil society.
Iraqi female experts, social activists, community leaders and journalists have shown their determination in refashioning public life. Despite intimidation, disregard within professional cultures, and community pushback, women nonetheless continue to struggle for space in politics, media, and civil society. To deconstruct barriers to female inclusion, women need to be prepared to take leadership positions and supported in creating alliances with women across a multiplicity of fields.
Financed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German government, MiCT trained 22 female journalists from all over Iraq in the spring of 2021. Trainings were designed to empower women in Iraq and develop skills in areas of leadership, team management, and editorial work.
The training program culminated in a networking event between the participants and renowned female leaders in the media sector. Through collaboration and networking, women can create new opportunities for leadership across the country.
