The Blue Peace Middle East
The Blue Peace Media Lab seeks to disseminate constructive and high quality stories that merit attention, foster an interest in the topic and ideally encourage to contribute to better water management as an active citizen or a water professional.
The Blue Peace Middle East initiative empowers media and communication professionals to drive regional dialogue and cooperation through impactful reporting on critical water challenges. By promoting innovative solutions within the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus, the initiative aims to transform water from a potential source of conflict into a catalyst for peace and collaboration in the Middle East.
As the first initiative of its kind in the region, Blue Peace Middle East serves as a regionally owned platform that strengthens cross-border, cross-sector, and intergenerational cooperation. The initiative works alongside senior water experts, academics, policymakers, and journalists to improve water, food, and energy security while preserving ecosystems in the face of climate change.
Through network meetings, specialized workshops, and advocacy campaigns, Blue Peace Middle East supports journalists in producing high-quality, unbiased reporting on transboundary water issues. It also trains young media professionals to develop compelling narratives and campaigns, ensuring their voices contribute to the region’s sustainable development.
Since its launch in 2010, the initiative has evolved into a regionally owned effort led by the Blue Peace Middle East Regional Mechanism, with representatives from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Türkiye. The current phase, running from January 2023 to December 2026, expands its scope under the WEFE Nexus Program, further reinforcing its mission to use water as a tool for cooperation and a peaceful future in the region.
This initiative is supported by the Strategic Foresight Group (SFG), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
