“Open Eye Award” For Journalists
On January 23, 2015, MiCT hosted the Open Eye Award in Berlin. Since 2010 MiCT has been honouring journalists in conflict and post-conflict zones with the Open Eye Award.

The award has often had a specific focus, whether that be on business, human rights, culture or other topics of national importance. This year’s specific focus was “People on the Move” and winners who had written on this subject were selected from journalist networks in countries contributing to MiCT’s Correspondents.org: Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. The website is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.

At the awards ceremony reporters from Iraq, Syria and Sudan who have made outstanding contributions to journalism as part of other MiCT projects were also honoured. The prize-giving ceremony took place at the Platoon Kunsthalle.

The Open Eye Award moreover celebrated MiCT’s eleventh anniversary of working in the field of cultural and media development.

Speakers included Klaus Streicher from the German Foreign Office and Klaas Glenewinkel, Director of MiCT. The keynote was given by Joost Hiltermann, COO of the International Crisis Group. Live music was provided by Friedrich Liechtenstein.
