First Cooperation With JICA In Juba
MiCT has for the first time cooperated with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA): Our team conducted a a three-day training on organisational, financial, and personnel management for South Sudan TV and Radio (SSTVR) in Juba at the beginning of February 2016.

JICA has implementing its project for Institution Capacity Building for Development of SSTVR through the NHK International, Inc., of the Japan Broadcasting Corporation Nippon Hoso Kyokai since 2012. It aims to nurture news and programme production, to train technical staff, and build up the structures for it to transform from a state station to a public broadcaster.

The MiCT crew was supported by two prominent experts: Russell Southwood, who we have worked with before in our project at Mali’s state TV ORTM. He is the CEO of Balancing Act, a consultancy and research company focused on telecoms, internet and broadcast in Africa. And Christoph Lanz, formerly the editor-in-chief of TV, Managing Director Television, and Managing Director Multimedia Global of Deutsche Welle respectively.

The mission was complimented by a visit to the jHub, a new innovation hub for young techies, and by talks with the CEO of MTN South Sudan, Philip Besiimire. The team was also received by Germany’s Ambassador to South Sudan, Johannes Lehne.
