Fresh From The Press: The Niles #5
The fifth print edition of our Sudan and South Sudan project has been published at the end of April 2015. The issue is both in English and Arabic in order to overcome language barriers between and within the two Sudans. Our team has been continuously training more than fifty young journalists from what are now (Northern) Sudan and South(ern) Sudan since 2009 to promote peaceful dialogue.

The new issue focuses on “People On The Move” in both Sudans. Millions have been displaced by conflicts in their respective countries or were forced to seek refuge abroad. Many others have become international labor migrants in search for better living conditions. The Niles #5 portrays various forms of these movements through personal profiles of ordinary Sudanese and South Sudanese. It also includes innovative infographics of migration patterns.

5.000 copies of the new edition have been distributed in Sudan as a supplement to the independent newspaper “Al Ayaam”. Another 5.000 were disseminated through the daily “The Citizen” in South Sudan.

In 2014, The Niles print series was displayed at the prestigious German media prize LEAD awards held at Hamburg’s Deichtorhallen and received an honorable mention. Articles by The Niles have been featured by The Guardian’s Africa Network.
